There are so many great patterns to be found in nature. This close-up image of the broken end of a large petrified log is a tapestry not only of cracks but vibrant colors.  These colors form as trees covered by volcanic ash are slowly replaced by different minerals as the organic materials slowly decays. The final result is a 3-D delineation in stone of the original material.
