This is one of my favorite beaches on any of the great lakes. Twelve Mile Beach is part of Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in Michigan's upper peninsula. This long stretch of white birch lined sandy beach on Lake Superior is only accessible on one end by a winding poorly maintained gravel road. The small campground found there rarely has many occupants and provides a wonderful overnight experience. A short walk down the beach brought me to this area of smooth rounded stones scattered about in the sand. Although it was a clear, warm, summer evening the day I capture this image the fifty plus feet between the water and stones gave an indication of the strength of the storms that had deposited them there.
